This was, and is, a truly great album. People forget this, but at the time, there were very few "art punks" around and there was very little to compare it to. This was also the first exposure people had to John McGeoch, maybe the greatest guitarist of the entire New Wave/Post-Punk era.
And nobody in that milieu was doing songs like "Parade" (though there isn't much McGeoch on this track):
