Wow, I just happened to be listening to this and it's the album of the day.

Production-wise, I prefer the T-Bone produced Revival. The sounds on that one are more varied and interesting. Time the Revelator is more live, ragged, emotional and all acoustic. Perhaps some songs are too long, but like an acoustic Crazy Horse, the drawn-out jams don't typically wear out their welcome.

If you like this you should check out The Stanley Brothers, specifically their work on Columbia Records.

I discovered this album last year going through Rolling Stone’s updated top 500. Not all of it clicked with me but there are some true highlights and strokes of songwriting mastery.

Jillian is really able to paint pictures with her words and create uncanny atmosphere with her voice. The best cuts on this album reflect that and then some.
