Ulcerate isn't really prog metal at all, although they have some proggy elements, I guess. They're at the top of the death metal world right now, especially in the dissonant underground crowd. Their sound is unique and expanded upon with each new release - on the last 2 studio albums, they went into the more atmospheric territory, with incredible results. Cutting the Throat of God is maybe the best combination of explosive, insane riffs and beautiful, quieter parts I've ever heard on a metal record, with To Flow Through Ashen Hearts leading the way in quality and awesomeness. The intricate web of chaotic riffs, octopus drumming, and incredible vocals (for the genre at least; I know a lot of people aren't interested in growls) makes this one of the finest metal releases of all time, imo. I honestly can't remember when was the last time I heard an album and immediately knew it was the best music of the year. Also, they're one of the best metal bands to watch live.
What Have You Done to Me didn't stand a chance, unfortunately. It's a good track, which could've gotten my vote in another match. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
I'll go for the wonderful nostalgia joyride of Imogen Heap doing Iamamiwhoami doing an early 00s electronic-fied nu metal epic track. The last Ulcerate I found just... pretty good? Didn't full sufficiently pulverized, though solid track here.
Not in love with either track but Flow Through Ashen Hear gets my vote. Often times the vocals in metal just aren't my thing and it seems Ulcerate is no exception but I love everything else about the song. _________________ Griselda, by Fashion Rebels 2020's Hip-Hop 2020's Country
