2024 was the year FFVII Rebirth came out, and I was already in love with Remake. But it officially became my favorite video game of all time. I am still stunned by it, even if it's like 9 months since I last played it. I cannot say enough good things about every corner of it, including the renditions of memorable tunes from the soundtrack like Aerith's Theme. Harry Gorski-Brown did not stand a single chance for me, I'm going with my man Nobuo Uematsu, classic always wins. _________________ My Top 100 :

II always didn't like the lo-fi MIDI quality of the original Aerith's Theme from Final Fantasy VII released on the Nintendo 64 video-game console in 1997. And for me it's such a shame, since this theme is one of the most iconic tracks in video-game history, especially if you know its context in the game itself.
Nevertheless, Square Enix, even when Square and Enix were separate companies until 2003, were known for their good Role-Playing (Video) Game soundtracks since the 90s made by talented composers, and even after the descending use of MIDI and soundchips for video-games while the CD has emerged as a standard, Square's musical production seems to have always been impressive like no other, e.g. Chrono Cross' beautiful orchestral soundtrack was made in 1999, while it still sounds quite modern!
And their musical production only seemed to get better and better with the Kingdom Hearts series, NieR series the FFVII remake series etc.
This ongoing musical journey has currently led us to FFVII Rebirth, which II nominated the "Aerith's Theme" orchestral arrangement for the tournament, because the orchestral production in this track is probably one of the best II've ever heard in the video-game industry! It does a lot of justice for the original track to me, hence, it's probably my favorite version of the track, and is also good as a Modern Classical track, since it combines Uematsu-san's soft melodies with an amazing orchestral production that elevates everything by 10,000%!
On the other hand, II do think it feels it has some modern classical schticks, but it stills sounds so glorious it has to be one of my favorite tracks of 2024.
Buain na choirce easily, what a great track and discovery (EDIT: the album rips as well, it's Lankum but Scottish and possibly even better). I like FF and the music's fine, including Aerith's Theme. I certainly like it more than the average symphonic video game OST. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
