I have always loved ballads. What are some of your favorite ballads? Post them here. I'll start with a Dan Fogelberg song. I've never been a big Dan Fogelberg fan, but I have always loved this one. This is a really great ballad IMO.

I was never really sure exactly what the definition of a ballad is. Is it just a slow song, or a quiet song? Idk. I've seen so many different things called ballads that don't seem to have anything in common besides being slow. And then there are some songs with Ballad right in the title and yet they're fast songs, like The Ballad of John and Yoko for instance. Go figure.

When I think of a ballad, I just think of a beautiful, slow song. The Oxford dictionary has these two definitions with examples:

1. a slow sentimental or romantic song:
"he admitted that he preferred recording ballads to his trademark funk" · "a slow piano ballad"

2. a poem or song narrating a story in short stanzas. Traditional ballads are typically of unknown authorship, having been passed on orally from one generation to the next:
"a traditional Irish folk ballad"
MadhattanJack
Just to end the list...

I absolutely Love Jeffrey Osborne's voice, and he has recorded some truly beautiful ballads! I couldn't have a ballads thread without him. So smooth!

I do remember On the Wings of Love now that I hear it again. It's indeed beautiful. I thought the only other song I remembered by him was Back in Love Again (Every Time I Turn Around) with LTD.

Yes, it is beautiful. It's songs like "On the Wings of Love" and the others I posted here that make me wonder where all the beautiful music has gone. There just aren't many beautiful songs like these in today's music.

I used to play this one over and over again years ago. I still think it's one of the best ballads ever written, to this day.
