Not a bad debut at all from the Reading band and one I'd recommend for anyone trying to get into dream pop/shoegaze but a lot of the ideas presented on the record would go on to be better realised on Souvlaki
Great album, they're clearly inspired by Disintegration, but change this sound into their own. Some songs are really beautiful, especially Spanish Air and Primal. I also love Ceila's Dream and Catch The Breeze.

As with many other debut albums, Slowdive wears their influences on their sleeve on Just For a Day. You can hear Cocteau Twins, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, but there is also a distinct uniqueness. Slowdive don't mess around when it comes to making heavenly music.

It's fine, a great record. Nice from start to finish
Another crazy good album by this masters of beautiful noise. While Souvlaki is definitely these guys shining star, this album is pretty close. Once you hear Spanish Air you know you're into something good

An endless daydream washes away all of your cares in the world.
Slowdive continue with the philosophy laid down by My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins but with 'Just For A Day', the band took their music to new ethereal extremes. Never has the synthesis of the Dream Pop and Shoegaze genres been so perfectly realized than on this album. The result is a symphonic psychedelic sound of beauty that encompasses hypnotizing harmonies and breathtaking soundscapes, the results of which are deeply psychological and mystical.

At times both serene and tragic, Just for a Day's mixture of ambience and hush-inducing soundscapes crystallises perfection to a glistening pin-prick.
