Not a bad debut at all from the Reading band and one I'd recommend for anyone trying to get into dream pop/shoegaze but a lot of the ideas presented on the record would go on to be better realised on Souvlaki (Edited)
Good enough for putting on as background music, but it's lacking something special. I see comparisons to The Cocteau Twins and MBV, but I don't hear it. The aforementioned artists gave us songs with hooks and points of entry; these songs just seem to go by like the ever-repeating background visuals in a cartoon chase scene. (Edited)
Great album, they're clearly inspired by Disintegration, but change this sound into their own. Some songs are really beautiful, especially Spanish Air and Primal. I also love Ceila's Dream and Catch The Breeze.

As with many other debut albums, Slowdive wears their influences on their sleeve on Just For a Day. You can hear Cocteau Twins, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, but there is also a distinct uniqueness. Slowdive don't mess around when it comes to making heavenly music.

Not quite as layered as "Souvlaki", and feels closer to 90's alt rock. Solid record.
Another crazy good album by this masters of beautiful noise. While Souvlaki is definitely these guys shining star, this album is pretty close. Once you hear Spanish Air you know you're into something good
