What is your favorite Christmas music? I have so many favorites and so for now, I will share my newest favorite performance. This is John Foster who was this year's American Idol runner up. This performance was during his 8th Grand Ole Opry appearance which was this past Sunday night. His 9th appearance is scheduled for January 9th if he isn't added to the lineup of an earlier day. Anyway, to me, he owns every song that he chooses to sing, and in my opinion, this may be his best ever Opry performance. ๐๐๐

P.S. His Opry debut was June 7th and so he did eight appearances in just six months. I pray that a membership invitation is only just around the corner if the Opry powers that be keep adding him to the schedule. ๐๐๐ _________________ Me & my favorite singer James Otto

I don't really "do" Christmas these days because of all the right-wing political manoeuvering that's involved now, but when I did, I had lots of favorites โย the obvious #1 being the Cocteau Twins' Snow single, featuring their version of "Winter Wonderland" which someone was nice enough to turn into a rotoscoped animation video on Youtube.
As for Christmas albums that are not also Various Artists compilations, and going by the BEA "more than four tracks or over twenty minutes" definition (or restricting myself to albums already listed), that's a much more difficult question since I happen to believe that most Christmas albums are basically unlistenable. Still, there are exceptions. BEA user Asimpkins has helpfully made a handy chart, "Modern Christmas Albums," and I agree with him (pretty much) on his choice for the #1 slot โย Low's "Christmas" mini-LP.
Last but not least, I've found that you can save a lot of time by combining your mix-tapes for Christmas and Halloween into a single, efficient collection, using tracks like Tape Deck Mountain's version of "Christmas Time is Here," to name just one example.
I absolutely cannot stand songs like "Silent Night", "Jingle Bells", "Winter Wonderland", and the list goes on. More overplayed over more years than any other songs. Ever.
I will, however, always have a place under my tree (which is basically a mic stand with a scarf on it) for these:
I think I prefer hymns to the usual tacky Christmas songs and I'm not remotely religious. Just rename Christmas a shopping festival and be done with it. Not a time of year I particularly enjoy.
This album includes their 2010 b-side, "Christmas Was Better In The 80s," which is really less of a Christmas song and more of a "things were better in the 80s generally speaking" song.
Right is the complete clip of John Foster's Opry Christmas performance. "If We Make It Through December" and "Christmas In Dixie" are the other two songs that he did. What makes the stage time even more special is what John has to say in between the songs. I especially love hearing him talk about the Opry Christmas sweater that he has on. ๐๐๐
