I've recently 'discovered' an album that was released in 2011 called 'Carrion Crawler' by one of the best bands in their genre I've heard for at least a decade.

If you can imagine an alchemy of the psychobilly-punk of the Sonics, the acid-rock of Jefferson Airplane, the deranged vocals of Suicide, Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd and the psyche-garage of the 13th Floor Elevators, then you have something resembling the sound of 'Thee Oh Sees'.

This LA-based band are touring in the States during 2012. It's a pity they don't plan to play London in support of say, Gallon Drunk. Now that's a double-header I wouldn't miss in a hurry. I haven't been quite so excited about a band for a long time.

I thought I'd mention them to you guys because I think they deserve to be heard and I think many of you will be interested in them.

Is anybody else familar with this band - in particular their album 'Carrion Crawler'?

I actually listened to their release Castlemania last week and was pretty disappointed because I had heard good things about it but nothing really stood out. It sounds like generic prog rock to me. I'll have to try Carrion Crawler sometime.

Hmm, they sound pretty interesting. Think I'll try to find their work on Youtube.
