Really weird album but really good. I do like the "weak" production of it and not made to sound like something it shouldn't be. Buzzards and Dreadful Crows is one of my all time fav. tracks.

Is the album as good as the song titles suggests?

If you haven't heard it, get it. It's not like anything you've heard. I'd say its a mix of pavement + Frank Zappa... seems like a weird mix and it sort of is.

The production sounds like it was done in a basement, because it was. It is super lo-fi and the production is really nothing extraordinary. It is raw and creative and catchy.

Beware though. Bee Thousand is a gateway drug to the world of Guided by Voices, and once you're hooked it's hard to get off their particular, unique brand /approach to rock and pop. Personally, I love GBV. During the 90's and very early 2000's, they were one of my favorite bands. Unlike powerful drugs, it probably won't hit you right away, but over time and repeated listens, you may get hooked as I did. You've been warned. Whistle

One of these days, I'm going to start a GBV appreciation thread. Think

This was a great listen actually - the lo-fi really adds to it.

There is some pretty good guitar work on here, and the lyrics are eccentrically brilliant.

I find it telling and sad that apparently more BEA members are more knowledgeable about the Killers than Guided by Voices, and this classic album. I'm telling you, you're missing out.

Eggman, Have you heard them? Someone who likes both Captain Beefheart and The Beatles equally would probably love GBV!

People are probably just more interested in insulting rather than praising
