Due to an unfortunate lack of appreciation in a certain builder game for one of the best bands of all time, I've created this thread hoping that there are indeed some members of BEA who truly understand the genius of Genesis. I hope to share and learn more about their music, which will no doubt be a companion for the rest of my life.
So, I'll start off by ranking my favourite albums of theirs (i.e. the prog ones):
1. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (Part 1 + The Lamia and The Colony Of Slippermen)
2. Nursery Cryme
3. Selling England By The Pound
4. Tresspass
5. Foxtrot
6. Wind And Wuthering
7. A Trick Of The Tail
8. And Then There Where Three
I think they're all really good (even ATTWT), but I feel that I for some reason haven't been able to appreciate Foxtrot and A Trick Of The Tail as much as expected yet, but I'm working on it.
What about yourself, fellow Genesis fan, how would you rank their albums? (other albums of theirs are of course "eligible" aswell)
You have them ranked well. I would just like to say that, And Then There Were Three has my favorite Genesis song with Phil doing vocals. Does anyone else like this song?

Cool, Early Genesis was great, Suppers Ready is probably one of my top 10 songs ever.
Here are the albums of theirs I find to be good, if not great:
1.Foxtrot (in my top 50 somewhere)
2.Selling England by the Pound
3.Tresspass
4. Nursery Cryme
Seconds Out and The Lamb Lies down on Broadway are almost up there too, but a bit inconsistent in my view.
Post Peter Gabriel they obviously went way downhill very quickly.
Why do think you didn't enjoy Foxtrot as much as you thought?
Well, it's just that besides Supper's Ready I don't really think any of the other songs are really memorable, but since Genesis' songs tend to grow on me big time, it could definetily just be a question of more listening.
I hope you'll do the same with TLLDOB (listen more to it that is), because trust me, it's worth it!

ah, well, I've owned TLLDOB for 4 or 5 years, and its actually gone down with successive listens. But its been a while, maybe its time to revisit it.
on another note: this is the my favourite song they did after Peter Gabriel:
That is a very good song. Thanks for posting it, I haven't listened to it in a while. _________________ He's the kind of person, you just gonna see him if you can,

Genesis' entire discography from Nursery Cryme through We Can't Dance, minus ATTWT, is outstanding.
Their 70s output stands artistically with any of the other commonly-revered greats. The storytelling within the lyrics is only matched by the instrumental creativity.
Their 80s output stands amongst the best catchy pop albums of all-time. Driven by Phil Collins who couldn't write a bad pop song if he tried that decade, Genesis blew up on the radio (beginning in the u.s. thanks to "follow you, follow me").
Their one superb album of the 90s combined the complex song structures of the 70s with the pop tendencies of the 80s (leaning to the 80s pop) culminating a career often overlooked amongst the "greats". They languished for 15 years before being inducted into the archaic hall of fame.

Odds are i am the biggest genesis fan at BEA so consider me heavily biased.
I think Phil is a great song writer. But an even better drummer _________________ He's the kind of person, you just gonna see him if you can,
