Natural Snow Buildings are a French duo, Mehdi Ameziane and Solange Gularte, who make a blend of folk, psychedelic, drone and ambient music. Formed in 1997, The Dance Of The Moon And The Sun is their third LP.
I visualize a circular presence to The Dance of the Moon and the Sun. It begins where it ends.
For example, imagine a standard clock. Instead of 12 numbers, there are 25 (as there are 25 tracks in The Dance…). The first track begins (Carved Heart) and the clock is set on the first hour. As each track passes, the hour hand progressively moves to the next number. This continues all the way until we've reached near the final minutes of the album, and finish the last track (Remains in the Ditch of the Dead) as the hidden song fades out. At this point the hour hand has come full circle, and the first track of The Dance… could begin again seamlessly.
One could also imagine this as a trip around the world… or maybe the solar system… or beyond? Whatever it is that fills you.
Needless to say, abstract qualities in abundance for those of you who enjoy them.
Personally, I really enjoy this album. I find it to be very soothing and relaxing; I can easily get lost within the long drone pieces and forget about the outside world for a couple of hours. Both the longer, more ambient/drone oriented tracks and the shorter, more folky tracks contribute towards this huge (2.6 hour runtime) collage of amazing sounds.

First off, much respect to the other album and captain. My album has perhaps less #abstractqualities... Unless you play it backwards, then you literally hear The Tibetan book of the dead in Sanskrit with tribal drums and droning electronics in the background. Pretty wild.
This "Heartbreaker" album is pretty amazing! It's a Melancholy-Blues drenched Minor Key master work. Contains some haunting and biting and brutally honest lyrics of love and loneliness and just the usual awesome stuff. Ryan Adams I consider one of the true heirs to the Neil Young and Townes Van Zandt tradition of insightful lyricist and singers.
This was his solo debut. Came out shortly after he left Whiskeytown.
Starts off with a humorous band argument about a Morissey track, then goes right into a great anthem that I just adore, "To be Young (is to be sad is to be high)...
And it contains some really sick harmonizing Americana/country blues tracks. Including this beauty with the beautiful and amazing Emmylou Harris! It's "Oh My Sweet Carolina"
Has lots of songs, all are excellent, all are sad and emotional and amazing!
Listen, if you like hearing great songwriting, emotional music, traditional instrumentation, classic Dylan or TVZ or Gram Parsons or Neil Young or Nick Drake or Uncle Tupelo then you'll really dig this album!
Also, there is some chance that every vote for Heartbreaker will lead to a donation to a charity for sick Children... Most likely not, but there is some small chance.
Dance of the Moon and The Sun may be filled with the sort of atmospheric, obscure, ancient sounding drones which make the listener feel like they're transcending space and time......but it also captures the simplicity and emotional purity of the best folk music. You can even hear the ghost of Popol Vuh's spirituality floating around at times. I'm definitely voting for Natural Snow Buildings.
