Why does the United States economy bad nostalgia hurt?
Pretty sure I'm not imagining this, I feel nostalgia is different to reminiscing, almost like there is a sting of regret to it? Although something different.
So lets here your thoughts on nostalgia, stories would be nice. ^_^
Why does the United States economy bad nostalgia hurt?
I think this has to do with the idea of longing for an easier, better time. Time makes the future and past seem far better than they actually were at the time. The present contains an unshakable reality plagued with raw emotion. I was often miserable as a teenager, but at many times I long for those days. It's far easier to appreciate them now that I don't have to exist in them. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
Nostalgia is painful because not only is it a longing, but it's a longing for something that, no matter what, will never be experienced again.
I was going to tick 'Sometimes', because nostalgia is bittersweet - but only because recalling the memory is what makes you happy, knowing that memory may never be realized is sickeningly painful at times, and that's feeling nostalgia; I ticked Yes. The sense of nostalgia, isolated, is a purely negative feeling, I think.

I have to disagree a bit. Nostalgia can be positive.
For example. Looking through old photos of my trips with my girlfriend is a very positive nostalgia that reinforces our strong feelings for one another.
I think nostalgia is painful when you're nostalgia is based around something than is forever lost, such as a friend that past away, or your childhood _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
most of the reasons that this song is my favourite evrr is because it encapsulates nostalgia so well. It's talking about remembering a relationship from the past but the achingly beautiful duality of bliss and pain in this song is relevant to any sort of nostaliga.
But to answer your question, yes, nostalgia always hurts. Sometimes it's pleasant but there's always that underlying pang of either regretting the choices you made at that time or sadness at the fact that what you have right now isn't as good as what you had then or the pain of never being able to revisit those moments. And as you get older those collection of moments only grows and develop into nothing but a series of vapour trails.
The biggest challenge with nostalgia - it's rarely accurate.
This. I think we always remember the good times of the past but rarely think about the problems we had at the time. And I think it's pretty much in the definition of nostalgia that it also means certain "longing" and some sentiments. Whether it's good or bad it depends on the kind of person you are. Clinging onto past (or more accurately a skewed "version" of your past) will not help you deal with your issues in the present
Funny story, I saw the word "nostalgia" written out probably 100 times before I ever heard it spoken, and the first time I said it I pronounced it "non-sta-la-ga". Whoops.
Anyway, for me nostalgia is basically the same as reminiscing, although specifically reminiscing about only the good memories, and when times were simpler. For me nostalgia is playing N64 and Gameboy, watching Rugrats, and biking around my neighborhood with a little gang of 8 year olds. N64 is the only thing that I still find fun. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

That's exactly what I was thinking. If you gonna make shit up about a golden era that never was then make it a pleasurable experience.
Edit: I guess I'm missing the point here though. Nostalgia is longing, therefore it can be painful no matter how true it is. But, I guess, recognising that it's a fabrication helps.
