The Motown record label was a force to be reckoned with in the '60s. Featuring artists like the Supremes, the Temptations, and the Four Tops, they regularly topped the charts in the US. Although they were generally focused on cranking out hit singles during this period, there were more than a few long players worth multiple listens.

What are your favorite Motown albums from the '60s?

Note: I'm including anything on a Motown-owned label (Tamla, Gordy, V.I.P., etc.)

Here are some of mine:

Meet The Supremes by The Supremes

This was before Diana Ross was dubbed the lead singer. They share the lead vocal duties here, giving this album some extra variety.

That Stubborn Kinda Fellow by Marvin Gaye

Gaye's second album, this is a notable influence on producer, Phil Spector.

Reach Out by Four Tops

This album has so much energy, it's infectious.

Moods Of Marvin Gaye by Marvin Gaye

Another fine release by the Prince of Soul.

Up Tight by Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder's breakout record.

Going To A Go Go by Smokey Robinson And The Miracles

An absolute masterpiece by a song writing genius!

It's nice to finally see some love for Motown on this site! 😁

To me, 60s Motown is more about the singles really.

I thought I'd post some of my favourite Motown tracks... I tend to like the more upbeat 'Northern Soul' tracks most but this is a smattering!

My favourite Northern Soul track of all time... This is the extended version...

The Velvelettes - guaranteed to get me on any dance floor (even if my slide is not what it once was!)

And because it is so rare for me to find anyone who shows even the remotest interest in Northern Soul (and isn't 50+ and from Wigan)... I'm going to put in a shameless plug for my Northern Soul chart...

It's not all Motown but if you are a Motown fan you should find something that will warm the cockles on there!
