Yeah we usually discuss all bands musically most of the time. But We know that the quality of the music can effect our opinion about the lyrics. But this time try to overlook that and just judge a band based on what they do lyrically !

Paul Simon's got some of the most beautiful lyrics I've heard, most notably in Graceland and Brdge Over Troubled Water. Kansas writes fantastic lyrics time and time again. Dust in the Wind, Carry On Wayward Son, The Wall... and I've always been a fan of the lyrics of Gorillaz.

Does it have to be a band? If not then I'd say Joanna Newsom must be in with a shout, especially as her wordplay, clever imagery, references to legends/myths and general use of English would rival a fair few published poets...

Scrap of sassafras, eh Sisyphus?

New Pornographers
The Microphones

About 35% of Beck's work (I don't like the Sea Change lyrics for the most part)

I have a hard time calling it a band. Darnielle is a phenomenal lyricist
