I think it's interesting to see what people have previously had as their Number One album of all time, and how that's changed and why - also where are those albums now in your charts?

For the first year I was on here Born to Run was my number one album with Automatic for the People (my current #1) in third. I felt like I was lying to myself, however, since I enjoyed Automatic more I just knew it wasn't considered by critics as prestigious an album. Since then I've listened to Funeral and ITAOTS which I now much prefer, but it's still in my top ten.

I used to have Ozzy Osbourne's Blizzard of Ozz. I knew I wanted one the first two Ozzy albums at #1 because the guitar playing on those albums are simply orgasmic to me. The debut usually gets more recognition than my current #1, Ozzy's Diary of a Madman, but I made the switch mostly because I changed my criteria a bit. I noticed that Blizzard of Ozz had a couple fillers and Diary didn't so I switched them. Blizzard has now made it's way down to #12. It still has most of my favorite Ozzy songs, but as a full body of work, Diary just seems more complete and has better production on it.

I still look at my chart sometimes and think "Something's not right here" so it'll probably be shaken up sometime soon.

When I first joined it was TVU&N. Then Pet Sounds just kinda gradually took it over.

Then I finally truly got ITAOTS and it took it's place. Then I heard Pinkerton and just fell in love with it, so now that's no.1.

Pretty much the first time I ever made an attempt to declare my favorite album of all time, it was A Night at the Opera. And then it stayed there for a while. And then Automatic for the People took over for about 4 seconds. And then ANATO went back. I'm very boring.

I dunno, I'm sure personal bias has something to do with it, but I've really never felt like I've straight-up enjoyed another album as much as ANATO. I imagine that's because it was the first album I ever owned and so naturally the songs made a huge impression on me and in many ways probably shaped my music tastes around them. Not to say that I refuse to replace it. Like I said, Automatic for the People took over once upon a time, but it just didn't last because for one reason or another it didn't feel like I was being honest.

Mine was Ten by Pearl Jam for quite a while. Eventually Chutes Too Narrow went from #5 on my original chart (I think) to #1. I just kept listening to it and somehow kept enjoying it more and more. Not one moment on that whole album I don't love...the only album on Earth I can say that about. Plus because of the overexposure to all those songs from Ten, it's not an album I play nearly as much anymore.

I don't know what my favorite album is. Right now I feel that every album in my top 8 could be my favorite album, depending on my mood and situation. The albums I recall having at no. 1 at some time are:

Tool - Lateralus
The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico
Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Red House Painters - Down Colorful Hill
Slint - Spiderland (currently)

And probably a Bob Dylan album at some point. I only believe the list will be growing over time

Mine is Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced but I feel that might change soon.

I'm a fairly new member, so it's always been aeroplane for me, but OK Computer, Strawberry Jam and Sound Of Silver are all sort of ties for second, so really it could change any day now.

Okay, this is not the reason Disintegration is #1 for me.

I listened to Disintegration back when I started my acting course in 2003 (shit, ten years!) and I initially didn't notice its power as an album.

The singles from the album I loved and Fascination Street is still my favourite song of all time. But it was in my third and final year of the acting course that I used the album as inspiration for playing Edgar in a gothic-punk version of King Lear. Each song then became a moment for Edgar within the play. Homesick definitely became a favourite during that time, reflecting the subtext of Edgar's character.

Since then, I always go back to Disintegration and cannot help but listen to the album as a whole. Actually as I write this, I want to listen to it again.

I flirted with other albums at #1 but for a cohesive journey and a real work of art, Disintegration is my number one.

Well, my number 1 has been my number 1 for the time i've been here, but my top ten will change at one time or another. I don't remember my original chart or top ten, but I'm sure a good amount of the orginal albums are down below now, or on my decades chart.
