- Post subject: Ability to add albums not in a chart
|
I really think there should be an ability to do this. I tried to add the rest of Tokio Hotel's discography, for example, simply for sake of completion - I can assure all of you that Zimmer 483 is the only Tokio Hotel album that will EVER appear on my chart for a legitimate reason - but as soon as I took the album off my chart, it disappeared from the database entirely. Just bugs me. There are a lot of albums that have merit for being on this site that wouldn't be in my chart, and aren't on the site.

I can alter the behaviour so that albums remain visible on the site after they've been included in a chart, but I'm against people adding anything and everything to the site just for the sake of it. The reason the site exists in the first place was to showcase the best albums.

Fair enough, and I get why you're doing that. I mean, after all, Nicki Minaj's albums are on the site thanks to a few people who have no idea what music actually is, and those are albums that are in like five charts each!
But I would agree with the idea of setting it so that albums stay even after they've been removed from all charts that feature it, so long as it has been on A chart before. It would keep spam to a minimum because of the effort required to put an album up.
Also, after someone has put an album up, there is an approval process, correct? Because if there is, I'm really wondering how Nicki Minaj ever got a proper section on this site.

No, there's no single person that decides what should be here - it's entirely down to the people that create charts. Yes, there are quite a few oddities (intentional and unintentional! ).

I see. I just seem to remember with Zimmer 483 that, afterwards, in the "recently added albums" list or whatever similar thing there was, there was a checkmark or something under "Approved". I guess that simply means it's been verified by the person who put the album in their chart.

all albums are checked to see whether they really exist so that the database is clean. The approved just means the data has been checked for the album (tracklisting, artwork etc).
