Recently re-listened to Born to Die again. It's good. Nothing spectacular but good. I don't think she's a "pawn" but then again I don't think any artist is, really.

I also don't really know what overproduced is. Is there a quantifiable amount of production that is proven to be correct? It just seems like a word people use to justify not liking something (similar to pretentious)

I would have voted cute.

I mean she was worth it just so I can look at the Tiger nod his head to the beat in the video of born to die. That Tiger is grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat.

I would qualify overproduced as any body of music that feels embellished or distractingly complex. Del Rey's voice has a simple force to it, and I think her best songs, "Blue Jeans," and "Video Games" mirror that simplicity. But other, like "Diet Mountain Dew," are really too warped in synth and new age hip-hop riffs to really stick around...

I just hate it. She seemed to have potential with "Video Games" and then completely ruined it. Also the rapping parts are almost as annoying as me.

I think she is a fashion icon with perhaps the world's most amazing set of lips, who has yet to prove she can produce anything more (musically speaking) than one incredible song, or perhaps putting it more accurately, one incredible presentation of a song. But

THOSE

LIPS

(swooning noise)

Wait for the next album or two and we'll see what she really does become, an artist or just an idea
