I've reread the whole thread recently before your answer and it's cool enough when people share the same opinions about best opening/closing albums, but it can also be a little tiring when 30 different people list "OK Computer" as an album with a great opener and closer in the same thread (not that I disagree, I love "Airbag" and especially "The Tourist").
Pearl Jam- Ten. Once kicks in and instantly blows you away with distorted fast paced guitars. And to close, Eddie's voice absolutely soars on Release, and it slowly draws to a beautiful and perfect close.
This is the first album I thought of after reading the question.
Abbey Road (Beatles): 'Come Together & Her Majesty'
Permanent Waves (Rush): 'The Spirit Of Radio & Natural Science'
Led Zeppelin II: 'Whole Lotta Love & Bring It On Home'
The Man Who Sold The World (David Bowie): 'Width Of A Circle & The Supermen'
Tommy (The Who): 'Overture & We're Not Gonna Take It')
The Miracle (Queen): 'Party & Was It All Worth It'
Grace (Jeff Buckley): 'Mojo Pin & Dream Brother'
The Cure - Disintegration "Plainsong"/"Untitled"
The Cure - Wish "Open"/"End"
The Police - Ghost in the Machine "Spirits in the Material World"/"Darkness"
Led Zeppelin - IV "Black Dog"/"When the Levee Breaks"
Evanescence - Evanescence "What You Want"/"Swimming Home" (standard album) _________________ The atmosphere rots in time.
