I hate when people assume I dislike a band because I'm trying to be cool, as opposed to just sincerely disliking their music. I'm not trying to be hip, I just don't like U2. Is that so fucking difficult to comprehend?

I think that's a pretty wild assumption to make. Without doubt there are people that say they dislike something because it's cool to do so, but I wouldn't say "most" do. I'm pretty sure "most people" who say they dislike U2 or The Beatles genuinely dislike U2 or The Beatles.
