One of my first 12" purchases. Truly amazing!

Haha, awesome. I picked up the LP in my local second-hand vinyl shop recently, in the '10 for a fiver' section.

Jimi Hendrix was not a solo artist (he played the organic band), but his influence (a solo artist) is seen and heard rock music outside the music. How to play freejazz with guitar, without that it would not be.. Hendrix style?

Django was not free jazz musician, his style is a European or Gypsy jazz. His playing is, however, freedoms, such as the (good) jazz should. He died in 1953, several years before Cecil Taylor and Ornette Coleman's era.

John Mclaughlin is a crossover guitarist. His playing has a lot of elements from different styles (Indian, flamenco, blues ..). He took the music to a lot of Jimi Hendrix - listen to, for example Noonward Race (Mahavishnu Orchestra).

Sonny Sharrock (1940-1994) was a true free jazz guitarist. He began his career at the same time as Hendrix, with no effect. Free jazz guitarist of the king's title, he achieved much later (Last Exit). Sharrock is more free saxophone musical relative, as guitarists.

Hendrix has influenced freejazz (+free rock) guitarists as Raoul Björkenheim (which I saw live in 2009) and Caspar Brötzmann - Peter Brötzmann's son, actually the right free jazz musician!

IMO, he'd only be a solo artist if the band members (other than him, obviously) changed every album or so. Or, if the live band members always changed.
