I wouldn't say they were a secret but there are few artists who I've had to add to the site:

Yppah
Manitoba (who went on to become Caribou)
The Electric Soft Parade
Funkstörung
Kid Koala
I-F

Plus a couple of great, yet somehow forgotten, albums by Shack (...Here's Tom With The Weather and ...The Corner Of Miles And Gil).

My favorite artist not in any of my charts is Elan Tamara, she has released 3 eps, none of which fit the criteria as an album for BEA.She's great,I would do a disservice to her saying anything else,go check her out. Here's the only bit of information/description of her I could find about her online after a quick search.

Quote:
Fascinated by Balinese Gamelan and Steve Reich, Elan Tamara makes music as uncategorisable, as heartfelt and beautifully otherworldly as anything you’re likely to hear. Over three EPs (Gold Fishes, Shadows and Organ) she has carved out a space so unique and unclassifiable that people have fallen back on namechecking other female artists with a distinctive aesthetic and outlook – Nina Simone, Bjork, Laura Nyro and their ilk. Needless to say, she doesn’t sound like them, either.

Two of her eps are on her soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/elantamara

You know, for those who haven't already check out King's X.

Start with their album Gretchen goes to Nebraska if you do.

It used to be Tallest Man On Earth for me. Now maybe AA Bindy. Especially Bondy's debut. Deserves more attention I think.

Velveteen - Imagine if Death Cab for Cutie remade We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes and The Photo Album over and over, but it was really quite awesome.

Hey Champ! - A great electro-pop group from Chicago. Catchy as chlamydia.

Lost in the Trees - Maybe these guys aren't the most obscure, but they should be getting more exposure, especially among the same people who love very meticulous, very gothic baroque music.

The Split Infinitives - Kind of like Lost in the Trees, but less amazing, and one guy instead of six or seven. Found them while meandering on Bandcamp. I like them.

Voxtrot are a fairly obscure indie pop band that I happen to love. They're like a fusion of the smiths and belle & sebastian. Witty lyrics, catchy melodies, damn good stuff. Check 'em out
