I was given a copy of Prince's Batman soundtrack on vinyl as a very small child apparently, though what use it would've been to me then I don't know. The first album I remember owning was the aforementioned Space Jam soundtrack. The first albums I bought with my own (pocket) money were Jay-Z's The Blueprint, Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory and Shaggy's Hot Shot. Other early purchases include U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind, the first Gorillaz album, Prince's The Gold Experience, The Flaming Lips' Yoshimi, Slipknot's Iowa, a Staind album, some Nirvana, Californication, Green Day's International Superhits, The Eminem Show. I was also given a bunch of albums as presents around that time, including Is This It?, Up The Bracket, the first Coral album, a Desmond Dekker best-of. Some of these may have been later than others, but they were all roughly in the same 18 month period I think. I was pretty young. I'd been listening to whatever my dad listened to prior to this, mainly Dylan, The Clash, The Gratfeul Dead, Costello, The Beatles, The Who, the Pistols, The Stones, Richard Thompson, a lot of reggae and soul and a bit of jazz, some post-punk. It's hard to remember where one thing ended and another began. I was also taken to gigs from a pretty young age; I went to see Bob Dylan on my tenth birthday. My parents always encouraged listening to music. But yeah, the Space Jam soundtrack was definitely the first CD I owned, whilst The Blueprint and Hybrid Theory and Hot Shot stick out as albums I was excited to go and buy with my pocket money.

The first album I remember owning was Born In The USA by Bruce Springsteen.

The second album I owned was Slide It In by Whitesnake. I distinctly remember Christmas of 1987 asking for a copy of Whitesnake's self titled album. My little brother went out and didn't know the difference so he bought Slide It In instead because it was half the price. It still amazes me that my parents would take him to the store and buy an album called Slide It In with the picture it has on the cover. I was 10 years old.

First I ever owned: Either Michael Jackson's Thriller or The Jackson 5 Greatest Hits. Don't recall which I got first, but probably Thriller.

First I ever bought myself? One of the Beatles' albums, but I don't recall which.

First CD I bought? Two at the same time, as when I switched to CDs I wanted to get the same 2 albums that were the first I bought on casette when my tastes started settling into what they are today: Jesus Jones' Doubt and R.E.M.'s Out of Time.

Michael Jackson seems to be a common first artist, I've noticed. 😁

The first album I owned - 'Arrival' - Abba.
I am not ashamed to say that this is still one of my favourite albums. I got it from Santa for Christmas and have been a 'Dancing Queen' pretty much ever since...

The first album I bought with my own money - 'Assemblage' - Japan
I saw Japan performing 'Ghosts' on Top of The Pops in 1981 and instantly fell in love with both David Sylvian and the sound. Invested my pocket money in 'Assemblage' because it had my (even then) favourite Japan song on it ('European Son' if you are interested - and no it isn't a cover of the VU song)

The first CD album - 'Mellon Collie..' - Smashing Pumpkins
I was an incredibly delayed adopter of the Compact Disc and this was a new release (1995) when I bought my first CD player. Liked the Smashing Pumpkins and so this became my first CD album.

The first single I owned - 'Rock with You' - Michael Jackson
This was a gift from my mum's boss (Ken) who ran the local youth club. I think he wanted to get me dancing disco in my own home rather than at the club. I must have been so good that I was embarassing the older kids!

The first single I bought with my own money - 'The Tide is High' - Blondie
Bought at 'Spin Inn' in Eccles. I had always liked Blondie - she was cool (or so my 9/10 year old self thought). I like this because it sounded like summer.

The first CD single - 'Missing' - Everything but the girl
I bought this about 2 weeks before I made my final decision on which cd player I was going to buy. It was the first CD I ever played my own sweet self.
