I had earplugs, but they muffled the sound too much. So I took them out. No point in being at a MBV concert and not going home with a tinnitus, am I right?
I did have them in my hands for most of the show, and put them back in at certain points when I thought it was getting dangerously loud. But apart from You Made Me Realise and that finale, I didn't have them in for more than a minute or two. That was the only song that I felt I needed them. I took them out for a bit, but couldn't last half a minute. And even with the earplugs it was still pretty violent. It lasted about 10-15 minutes I think, and yes, it was a bit like an earthquake (seriously, on paper the whole idea sounds like a pretentious thing to do, but really makes sense live). But most of the people around me didn't have them at all, and only maybe two of them seemed in agony and/or holding their ears.
My advice for future MBV concert goers - buy shitty earplugs. You don't want to miss on the experience of possibly the loudest show you will ever attend, but you also don't want to realize midway that you overestimated your tolerance for noise.
The Sunny Sundae Smile EP!!! And I'm being serious!
And as for "You Made Me Realise" live... as much as I love 'em, there's no way my ears could endure 30 minutes of this. Would have made me slip out for a fag and a slash...
holy shit, this is loud on my laptop at just a volume setting of 52/100... but yeah, I've heard their concerts are extremely loud, I'm just going to enjoy My Bloody Valentine from a distance... _________________ <--suddenly...Bora!
