I remember a while ago someone saying that new releases should not be put into charts until they have been out a while. The idea being that they couldn't be counted as the "best ever".
Well I have noticed lately a lot of the new charts have albums on the month they were made. The majority of these people post their chart and leave this site without making any alteration. A few even have charts with 2 or 3 albums, all of which are new releases.
Now I'm seeing a problem here. These charts may only be representing what they are listening to at the moment. You could argue that's the whole point of the website and most charts will be what the person is listening to the most. Although while a... say a 20 year old album may drift really slowly to and from favor, a new album may be top 5 material one week and fallen below top 50 material once the month is up. This time last year I had Billy Talent III playing whenever I went out. Right now it's not on my mp3 and the CD has been shelved some where.
If there was some way new releases couldn't be added for a few months after their release it would greatly change the charts for the current year. It will probably give a major indication of what was good and what wasn't so good.
Another idea would be that a member has to be registered for 3 months before they can put albums from 2010.
I understand what you are saying here, but it would be incredibly difficult to enforce and I´m not sure BEA should dictate in any way what is and isn´t allowed in someone´s chart.
