It's a good record. I actually prefer it to Bon Iver, Bon Iver, on account of that hideous last track that destroys everything. Plus it's got sentimental value, I offered my lady this record, she's called Emma, she loves it. Can't hate it with a story like that.

That's what matters.

I find it boring

This, but Re: Stacks is OK. This band has insufferable fans, a fact that I find very irritating and try to separate from the music while listening but I usually fail and the music isn't good enough for me to care. Pass.

Love this record. I definitely think it was built up a bit too much with the ridiculous depressed guy in a cabin story, but the songs are great, the vocals are incredible, and the 2 times I saw Bon Iver when they were first touring smallish venues in support of For Emma were 2 of the best, most emotionally stunning shows I saw that year.

This one in particular. it was jam packed. excruciatingly hot. but just totally unforgettable. Black Mountain followed.

a little overpraised, but I still love it. Just an album you have to be in a certain sort of mood to enjoy, and experiencing it during those lonely graveyard shift days in my early 20s as well as revisiting it during the endless north dakota winter, there was just something so spooky yet comforting about it that made the album so captivating. I just didn't quite get that feeling with his follow-up, where he seemed to be trying to carry the whole world's heartbreak on his shoulders and eventually just cracked under the weight.

I agree with this so much...

Overpraised? For sure, but it is still moving, especially in the right mood. I totally get the winter in the prairies reference. The first time I 'got it' with this album, I was highway driving in Alberta - still, cold, and snow-covered. The lonely sound of heartbreak resonates well when staring at the bleak beauty of miles and miles of winter.
