I go back and forth between this and Sticky Fingers for second best Rolling Stones record. I'm leaning toward this right now.

The Stones could do nothing wrong from '66-'72. Of course this album is great. Of course Gimme Shelter, Let It Bleed and You Can't Always Have What You Want are among their best songs.

An album that kicks off with possibly one of the greatest song intros ever and then goes uphill from there. Number 7 on my Top 100 Greatest.

Eh, don't like the Rolling Stones. Gimme Shelter is all right.

I was surprised to see you post about the Stones. But it's OK, it was just a post about nezzle Laughing

Or a post about The Wire...

Anyway, I agree that You Can't Always Get What You Want has become tiresome... but the rest of the album is dynamite.

I don't know what it is but I can't understand the hype of The Stones at all. I can appreciate they're good but nothing really jumps out at me like so many other bands of that era can. Try as I might they can't hold my attention for long. I really wish I could understand all the fuss, I hate the feeling of missing out on a good band.

I almost agree with you, overall they're probably not a really great band but their 66-72 stuff is great like I said. I think they're overhyped but fun if you can get used to their attitude and if you can enjoy just plain great rock songs I guess.

A good Stones album but not a great one. It cannot compete with Exile, Aftermath or Beggars for example. Probably ranks on a par with Sticky Fingers and Majesty's in that it's uneven with too many mediocre tracks among the masterpieces.

This was one of the first albums I could sit and listen to the whole thing when I was young. I remember my dad used to say Midnight Rambler may have been his favorite song ever and I couldn't get that because at the time I found the song really weird.

I love that part.
