For an album just over the half hour mark it really dragged, I was waiting for it to finish after about 3 songs. It was safe, and boring. The female singer was nice, but she never really had enough room to leave her stamp on the album, it always seemed like they were trying to drown her out, the dude was meh. The musical side of the album was stale, it's nothing I haven't heard multiple times before, I'll likely never play it again.

Was not aware of Magnetic Fields' side projects!
As for the album: I didn't think the album was very cohesive as a whole. The contrast between Stephin Merritt and the other male singer broke my concentration often between songs. Despite this, the three voices went well with the beats to make some catchy individual tracks. Entertaining and very fun.
It isn't exactly anything special, though it was a nice listen. 70/100 for now.
Definitely better then MF's latest

I wasn't sure what to make of it for the first few tracks, it had this strangely familiar overly positive vibe but seemed to lack anything original, but it (or perhaps I) soon got into the groove of things. It's probably better overall than the last few Magnetic Fields records but still has that unrecognisable Merritt sadcore pop sound.
The one liners on this album are incredible. 'I'm digging my own grave. Oh, The money I'll save." "Drink nothing but champagne it makes life shorter than drinking water." and it's clear from just a few lyrics that the album holds together due to the contrast of the sugary tunes and overtly mopey and cynical lyrics. Though at times that style can easily becomes gimmicky and tedious.
Certainly my favourite of the ALC so far.
Key Tracks: Let's Go To Sleep (And Never Come Back), How Very Strange, Digging My Own Grave
ALC Ranking:
1. Partygoing - Future Bible Heroes
2. Sub Verses - Akron/Family
3. Other Life - Sean Nicolas Savage
My 2013 Ranking:
...
41. True Romance - Charli XCX
42. Partygoing - Future Bible Heroes
43. Girl Talk - Kate Nash

Okay, this may be odd, but my favorite song was "Living, Loving, Partygoing".
But thanks for this rec, I'd heard of them often, but had been scared off by a "disco" label slapped on them at times. But I really enjoyed it!
