I actually really like Toronto, but I have to address some points here...
First - what Jack is right about:
Calgary is getting stupid expensive. It seems having a bunch of oil money makes prices go up... Rent is still reasonable, but everything else is climbing.
There is a Stampede in Calgary. There is also a gay rodeo (non-pejorative - it's literally a rodeo for homosexual cowboys). Both are cheesy. Both are fun.
The music scene is better in Toronto. Not because Calgary's sucks (its been getting a lot better), but Toronto's is kick-ass.
Nowhere is as multicultural as Toronto. As a result, the food, music and fesitval scene is fantastic. Carifest, gay pride, TIFF, and others are massive.
To further his point, Toronto is a day's drive from Quebec, which is fantastic. Montreal is like a European city in Canada. Toronto also has better summers, lots of big trees, the Great Lakes and proper local produce. Really, it's a world-class city.
Also, while Calgary is becoming more Liberal, there is a strong right-wing slant to the city. Too many numbnuts have prostituted themselves to the oil patch, and big business bullies politicians. Further, our local media is brain-damaged. Elections here seem promising, but always end with the same result. I envy Ontario's wild unpredictability. Our winters (despite breaks from chinooks) are colder, and people get nosebleeds from the dry air.
What Jack is wrong about:
Calgary has more than 'nothing'. Jack's attitude is why most Canadians outside of Toronto hate Toronto. Yes, Calgary's cultural scene isn't of Toronto's calibre, but it's been blowing up of late. Having a bunch of yuppies with excess oil money means business for stores, art, restaurants, bars, clubs, etc...
The mayor of Toronto (Rob Ford) isn't 'a viper'. He's a complete clown. In fact, Jack suggested he had down-syndrome.
Yuppie oil money in Calgary = tonnes of money for drugs.
Our private liquor stores are convenient and cheap, but they have resulted in the highest drunk driving, domestic violence and alcoholism rates in Canada.
What Jack neglected to mention:
It takes 10 years of sitting in gridlock to get out of Toronto. The smog in the summer is world-class. The gun-crime is high for Canada (not counting Edmonton). People get shot while Christmas shopping.
Calgary is an hour from the Rockies. World-class skiing, amazing camping and hiking, and Banff.
I've lived in Toronto and Calgary. Given my choice, I think I might try Vancouver, Montreal or Halifax. All are pretty cool towns as well...
Nobody wants to live in Sudbury. Or St. John. Or Red Deer.
I can't speak on Perth or Ljubljana. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.

Hahaha, I know, I'm just messin'. As for Rob Ford being a viper, I was referring to the rapper Viper. Please see below.
