The Syd era, obviously.

^^Exactly.

In terms of both influence and creativity, Piper takes the cake (aside from totally just being their best album anyway).

I guess it's open ended. Whenever you believe to have had the most progress on their music and the future of music. I wouldn't worry too much on the basis of when there was the most commercial success because there are statistics for that. But if that's the era for you then so be it.

Personally, I would consider the era when they were doing the Ummagumma Live and Live at Pompeii kind of set lists. You know, like pre Dark Side of the Moon and even the stuff onto Dark Side of the Moon. I think that's when doors really started opening up.

Maybe focus on your favorite era. Because that's the time when I would really wanted to have seen them live.

Their Greatest Era for me is from 1973 - 1979 , i.e. from The Dark Side Of The Moon to The Wall. The creativity that went on to produce The Dark Side Of The Moon is well known and documented, the running and splicing of tape loops for instance throughout the studio by Waters and Gilmour to get On the Run recorded is quite creative and a funny story in itself. But I am saying this half-heartedly, as you cannot simply dismiss the Barrett era.
