I have a strange fascination with this album. What's great about it is that I know it's not very good. It's a bit overdone, she's not the best singer, her lyric writing is pretty bad, she doesn't know what irony is, etc.
But I can't stop playing it! Haven't figured it out yet. Maybe it's 90's nostalgia.
This album is pretty good. It's not perfect and Alanis Morissette isn't really that good outside of this album, but I think the circumstances played out in her favor, at least artistically. Anxiety and panic attacks might not be good for the health but they can lead to some personal and emotionally charged lyrics, and that's really where the strength of the album lies.
Anyways, I can't think of Alanis anymore without thinking of this How I Met Your Mother parody video:
