You come across more negative about music than I was at my most negative. I had many songs which I disliked for whatever reason yet this year I am going back to them and finding brilliant catchy songs.

I think I am starting to come to a realization there is nothing truly horrible to my ears and the worse a song can be is something I am completely apathetic to and can't remember afterwards. Think

This sounds like the attitude of somebody who hasn't spent any time in bars that play shit music at obnoxious volumes.

Well... that is an entirely different way to look at this... Anxious

Looking at your list again Im not even sure where you would even want to listen to that stuff. Most of it isnt really party tunes unless part of a better playlist.. 2012 had better singles surely.

what are tapes?

anyway, i still make mix cds.

Every few months i make one for my 7 year old boy. he enjoys listening to a bunch of diff stuff, like the national, chvrches and decemberists along with simon & garfunkel, michael jackson and weird al. For a while he was obsessed with daft punk. I'm obviously more of an influence on him than his mom (as i'm constantly listening to music). So i have fun making him new cds and hearing which ones he likes or doesn't..

Then i have a friend that i've made a "my favorite singles" cd for every year for over a decade. We have similar tastes and she doesn't have many opportunities to read about or discover new music, so i'm happy to oblige.

Wow I'd totally forgotten about "Mama Used to Say", what a hit. "Rip It Up" somewhat sounds very slightly sped up on your mix, is it me or?

It's the 7" version as opposed to the album version (the same version as heard on the video). Never was a fan of that extended intro. And I absolutely adore 'Mama Used to Say', although this time I opted for the superior 12" version with the extended intro.

I feel weird saying this, but I am actually interested in your stories. What was on the CD your best friend made?

WELL ... I'm an idiot. Sorry everyone, I NEVER EVER SAW THIS. Alex especially, somehow I completely missed this post until 4 months later ... GAH.

Anyways, long story short, mutually liked a girl, we decided to date, never went on a single date, and it ended. But there was a CD! If you're really curious, I'd be happy to PM you.

Also the playlist for "Ben CD" from my best friend is a YouTube playlist now (since I don't have iTunes anymore and Spotify's being weird and trying to replace the tracks, I made a YouTube playlist for myself).

If you don't have the time to listen to a bunch of music, here's the tracklist:
Stuck On You - Meiko
Mountain Man - Crash Kings
Dear Santa - Jay Brannan
On My Way - Billy Boy On Poison
Eat Randy - Julian Smith
Do You Want To Date My Avatar (A Capella) - The MIT Muses
The Fire - The Roots & John Legend
Icky Thump - The White Stripes
Every Single Night - Fionna Apple
Cooler Couleur - Crookers feat Yelle
Around The Bend - The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
If We Were Gay - Ninja Sex Party
5 Years Time - Noah & The Whale
Engrish Bwudd - Man Man
The Umbrella Man - Ginny Simms, Harry Babbitt, Kay Kyser Orchestra
What You Know - Two Door Cinema Club
You Won't Get With Me Tonight - PDF Format
We Are All On Drugs - Rabato
Whatever You Like - Anya Marina
You Don't Know Me - Ben Folds feat Regina Spektor
Love Me Dead - Ludo
Here (In Your Arms) - Hellogoodbye
4 Chords - Axis of Awesome
At Last - Etta James
Battlefield Theme - Mikael Karlsson
Crazy He Calls Me - Billie Holiday
Dance Without You - Skylar Grey
Booty Swing - Parov Stelar
Hot Knife - Fiona Apple
Baby Got Back - Sir Mix A Lot
Mario Kart Love Song - Sam Hart
Always Look On The Bright Side of Life - Monty Python
Going On - Gnarls Barkley
Be My Baby - The Ronettes
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Live) - Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra
Less Talk More Rokk - Freezepop
She's Got Me Dancing - Tommy Sparks
Dream a Little Dream - Louis Armstrong & Ella Fitzgerald
Mister Sandman - Pomplamoose
I'm Not Your Boyfriend Baby - 3OH!3
Joker and the Thief - Wolfmother
Donuts, Go Nuts! - Matt Chaney
Intro - The XX

So yeah, she's pretty cool.

EDIT: I uh ... I forgot the link, didn't I?
