Thanks guys When I started this thread I was expecting one or two albums to be recomended by each person but it turns out there is a whole lot more

I'm not going to pick my personal favorites from that list and recommend them. I do think, however, that you need to listen to Elvis Presley. You can think what you want of the music, but if you want to be able to speak about rock & roll with any sort of dignity, all your authority will fade to nothing if you can't say something intelligent about Elvis.
There are others on the list that are essential, but not as essential as that one.

I think you should hear Slanted & Enchanted.. Cpt Beefheart too, even if I'm not a huge fan (apart from certain songs)..
My favourite off the list (from those I've heard) is Veckatimest, but I doubt you'll enjoy it
