Leaning towards to Ozzy, but I could be easily swayed to Robert Wyatt.

Solo, it's Wyatt easily. If we were taking their other work into account (The Soft Machine, Sabbath), I'd probably go with Ozzy. But as it is, it's not a difficult decision.

Ozzy himself is not particularly good. Honestly, it's the guitarists that save him. Lyrically, he's mediocre at best and just cringe-worthy at worst. He's just been fortunate enough to work with some of the greatest guitarists known to mankind (Tony Iommi, Randy Rhodes, Zakk Wylde etc.) and that's really taken his work to the next level. I believe without them, Ozzy would've put out nothing but pure mediocrity.
All that being said, I do like his music. If there's one thing he can do, it's write a good melody, and that, combined with amazing guitar-work and bearable lyrics (most of the time) makes some great stuff. All of his work (outside of Bark At The Moon) with Randy Rhodes is fantastic, and his stuff post-Rhodes, the Jake E. Lee and Zakk Wylde stuff, is hit or miss. No More Tears is a really cool album (though a little long), Black Rain is solid, but there's a lot of mediocrity about too. And then there's the crime against humanity that was Scream, squandering away the talent that is Gus G.
Despite all of the negativity that I'm sure my post seems to exude, I'm still voting Ozzy, because the worst he is is mediocre and the best he is is awesome (I'm referring to his general body of work, rather than literally he himself). While Wyatt is great, Ozzy's stuff had a massive impact on me growing up, especially when I started playing guitar. Blizzard Of Ozz was my shit for the longest time. _________________ 2023 Chart

Wyatt by a good amount. Even taking into account their work with groups I'd still probably go with Wyatt pretty easily. Not to say I don't enjoy Black Sabbath, but Wyatt is hanging near the outskirts of my chart and Rock Bottom is one of the most beautiful, vulnerable albums I've ever heard. I really need to relisten to some of his stuff soon, it's been far too long.

Not to beat on a dead horse, but as great as Sabbath was, Ozzy's solo records are really spotty, and cannot compare to Wyatt's phenomenal solo output _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Wyatt as a solo artist.
Though I prefer Sabbath to Soft Machine.
Vote for Wyatt. _________________
