Relistened to it just a while ago, thinking I'd maybe disregarded it some. And truth is: I had. Sure, The Libertines invented nothing. But this album is a huge improvement over Up the Bracket, it gives the right amount of cheeky aggressivity, seems to both melodize (is that a word? it should be) and riff with ease, and contains my favourite Libertines song ("The Ha Ha Wall").
I think both releases were quite grand, but overshadowed by Pete Doherty's endless problems. The Libertines had a way of sounding like it was all going to unravel at any minute and yet they were air tight and melodic. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
Well the opposite of what Norman said, although I've listened to it less recently than him. While their debut was crazy, fun and totally unhinged, this is more, erm, squared? Is that a word? I mean, I think it's more restrained more calculated than their super spontaneous debut. I might have shitty memories though, but yeah, what I mean is I was disappointed.
