Relistened to it just a while ago, thinking I'd maybe disregarded it some. And truth is: I had. Sure, The Libertines invented nothing. But this album is a huge improvement over Up the Bracket, it gives the right amount of cheeky aggressivity, seems to both melodize (is that a word? it should be) and riff with ease, and contains my favourite Libertines song ("The Ha Ha Wall").

Very good, very good indeed.

I think both releases were quite grand, but overshadowed by Pete Doherty's endless problems. The Libertines had a way of sounding like it was all going to unravel at any minute and yet they were air tight and melodic.

Well the opposite of what Norman said, although I've listened to it less recently than him. While their debut was crazy, fun and totally unhinged, this is more, erm, squared? Is that a word? I mean, I think it's more restrained more calculated than their super spontaneous debut. I might have shitty memories though, but yeah, what I mean is I was disappointed.

Still fun after all those years. Not as good as the first one, though. Lacking its raw energy, I suppose.

Track picks:

Last Post on the Bugle
Campaign of Hate
What Katie Did

Both Up The Bracket and this are great albums, hopeful they do play some new material at that reunion gig. Another album would pretty good too.
