Kala used to be in my top 20 albums, and it's still in my top 100, but it's dropped a bit since I started listening to more albums.

M.I.A. is one of the artists that got me into modern music that wasn't on the radio (I was about 11, but whatever). I listened to Kala before Arular and didn't know too much about it apart from Paper Planes, and it just blew me away. I was so interested in all of the African sounds and the full-blown production. It's just a really cool album, and I still think it's one of the 'coolest' albums I've ever heard.

I've probably listened to it 100 times by now, and I'm still entertained by it. Sometimes I ever forget Paper Planes is even on this album after the 10 stellar tracks before it. I've caught myself going 'oh, right, that's on this too' a few times. The only track on here that I think is below outstanding is 'The Turn', which is still decent.

Favs: Mango Pickle, 20 Dollar, Paper Planes & Bamboo Banga.

95/100.
