There has never been a bad album by The Smashing Pumpkins. There is always something good. This album has Ava Adore and quite a fair selection of others. Despite it's length, like Mellon Collie, it actually a fairly consistent album. Very good. Smile

Bring the Light is one of the best Smashing Pumpkins song (perhaps the very best since the year 2000) and while the album doesn't reach as high as Oceania (a fantastic album by the way) it would be going a bit far to call it bad.

I actually agree with you in that Oceania is an underrated album. With the exception of Doomsday Clock and Bring the Light though I could not get into Zeitgeist at alllllllll. I could see why some fans like it but it doesn't have the heart or the passion I've come to expect from The Smashing Pumpkins and it's arguably the weakest in a very polarized catalogue.

As for "Adore" I really love it's nightmarish sound. Yeah, it's different from most of their 90's work but it fits the timing of the decade well and the songwriting here is top notch.

For me and many others this was the beginning of the end of our love of the Pumpkins. Too inconsistent and not enough energy. Surprised that there are not more negative comments here. I might give it another listen sometime.

Dammit, I missed it!

I really, really like Adore, and I always have from my first listen. I have it second out of the Pumpkins albums and (I think) #22 on my overall. I really think it's brilliant from start to finish. "To Sheila", "Ava Adore", "Daphne Descends", "Tear", "Crestfallen", "For Martha" are all among the band's finest work.

Possibly the most underappreciated album ever, though it's certainly getting a much better reception now than it did in 1998 or even five years ago. It's like the Timothy Dalton of '90s albums; derided at the time, but people are now realizing just how great it really was.
