I liked Opus, but I liked Oldham even more. Both solid noms though.

There is No one What will take Care of You is in my TOP 10 Overall. Needless to say that’s rarified air and a highly coveted & prestigious spot for artists in the know. And trust me, if anything else, my boy Will’s in the know.

Here's what I have to say about it in my chart...

When I was but a wee bit of a lad, THIS is what I dreamed Country music sounded like. Austere, plaintive & naked coupled with a crazed spiritual fervor. You can imagine my horror when I found out it was nothing more than a NEUTERED version of the hard rock of my junior high school years. Luckily this bard-of-many-names dreamed the same dream. Whiskey would not taste quite so good without it.

But, I'll listen to Ghost anyways before casting a vote because they sound cool...

The self titled under Palace Brothers (Oldham) I prefer over this particular one, but I voted Palace Brothers regardless. Opus is great however!

Ok. It wasn't really fair because I listened to Opus Eponymous after binging on At the Gates so of course it sounded a little weak. I love that they're obviously influenced by some of my favorite 80s metal bands, but honestly nothing revelatory to me after two admittedly lazy spins.

Anyways, this was really no contest for me anyways since it's going against one of my favorite artists of all time.

Opus Eponymous is not my cup of tea. On the other hand, I was not that impressed with There Is No One What Will Take Care of You either. Now, take that from a non-English speaking music listener who invested zero time and attention to the lyrics. Vote to There Is No One What Will Take Care of You.

Great excuse for me to rediscover my love for There Is No One What Will Take Care of You. It's been a long time since I'd listened to this. I've liked both of Ghost's records to varying degrees, but it doesn't stand a chance vs this Palace Brothers release

Opus Eponymous was a solid metal album with some surprising and cool things. I really enjoyed some of the guitar sounds and the keyboard work throughout the album was subtle and cool. I felt the Blue Oyster Cult influence a lot, partly due to my strange familiarity with early Blue Oyster Cult, but that's not really much of a boon to me. Even though they were a band I liked a lot back in my classic rock days who I don't hate these days, I can't really go back to them at all. And Opus Eponymous screams Blue Oyster Cult. From the cover art to the album title to the sound, it's basically if Blue Oyster Cult was more of a modern metal band. Aside from that a lot of the melodies didn't really catch me, and the production felt strangely empty. But, it was still an enjoyable album.

On the other hand, I've never fallen in love with Will Oldham like my taste dictates I should, but I've never come close to disliking anything I've heard from him. There Is No One What Will Take Care Of You is probably my favorite release of his and I do enjoy it a lot. Again, nothing I've quite fallen in love with, but Oldham packs a bunch and can construct some really powerful songs.

Appreciate both these albums, but Oldham I appreciate more.

Vote to Ghost. The blend of heavy metal guitar with California harmonies (anyway, that's what I heard) was way more interesting, musically, than the Palace Guy. Sorry, Oldham fans, but I just couldn't wait for that guy-with-a-banjo album to be over.

Ghost does not sound like Weird Al. Well, maybe on Stand By Him.

Looks like there was someone to take care of Oldham after all.
