One of those albums that I forget I love until it's on.

It's a pretty solid debut album though I must admit to still hating Brass In Pocket. Stop Your Sobbing and Kid are both great new wave tracks from a period that was undoubtedly rich in creative musical talent. Pretenders II was a decent follow up to this too!

One of my favorites, I was shocked when I came to this site to see how much lower it is ranked here than, say, Rolling Stone's list. 10/10. Very unique sound, easy to love but with plenty going on below the surface to enjoy. Chrissie Hynde is a frontman like no other, James Honeyman-Scott a perfect guitar counterpart. Led by those two and with plenty of support from the tight and inventive rhythm section, The Pretenders achieved the purest fusion of punk and New Wave.
Everything is top notch, but if I must pick:
Kid
Mystery Achievement
The Phone Call

Love this album, pity they never reached the same heights again though.
As stated above me, Pretenders II was a decent followup, but nonetheless....

Their best album, really good. They were still making okay music into the mid 90s.

I'll always know them for the two songs they contributed to The Living Daylights (as well as John Barry's PHENOMENAL work in incorporating them into the soundtrack) but this is a great album. One of the best of 1980 for sure.
