Legitimately one of the worst films I've ever seen. It has zero redeeming features. I was high as fuck when I saw it and it was still fucking terrible.

I like Méliès, but considering what you say after this, it's totally ironic. Involuntarily so, but still. More later.

Stupidest thing I've ever read about this subject. By 1917 all the camera moves had been established, and cinema as a medium had already been theorised expansively by 1928 (Eisenstein, Delluc, Moussinac, Vertov).

Hahaha, ok, iaf I mostly wrote this just to troll the fuck on the last page for being a wanker but he never responded so boo him. I really don't have any beef with silent film, I love a lot of silent film and a lot of what I said was said for the sake of Jimmy Rustling - but I do think that movies of the period had trouble "seeing beyond the proscenium arch" so to speak, even Méliès (though I think he made up for it with his lavish artisan-ship and whimsy).
Like, (and I know this is down-right sacrilege to many) I think a lot of black and white movies would be much better with colour (It's A Wonderful Life comes to mind right away as a movie that is beginning for a bright colour palette but finds itself subdued in dull grays), and the only real exceptions to this rule are movies which utilized this limitation as part of their stylism (the film noir and French new wave movements being particularly good examples).
Interested in further reading on the theorists you mentioned though if you could link/suggest me some,

Thanks for these, I have already watched Un Chien Andalou and Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie by Bunuel though that was long ago. From mecca's list, I've watched Dr Strangelove, Being John Malkovich and some of Brazil (which looked awesome, need to finish that film).

I think it would be best to start simple and ask for movies you think would appeal to me. I may have seen less than 50 films in my entire life and most would have been me as a child being may to watch what was on TV or cinema.
So what movies would I like?
