Metamodern Sounds In Country Music by Sturgill Simpson
1. "Turtles All the Way Down"
2. "Life of Sin"
3. "Living the Dream"
4. "Voices"
5. "Long White Line"
6. "The Promise"
7. "A Little Light"
8. "Just Let Go"
9. "It Ain't All Flowers"
10. "Panbowl"
Sorry for my tardiness.
So I really think this is going to be a great year for country music. People are getting a little fed up with the so called "bro-country" and there are some genuinely thoughtful and powerful albums appear from both male and female artists.
This is easily my favorite album of the year so far. When I first heard "Turtles All the Way Down" before the record was released I knew this record would bring Simpson the attention he should've gotten last year. The song is still rooted in country themes (love, hardship, religion, etc), but Sturgills wit and his "deep thinker" mentality spin the song in a direction that hopefully puts some of the Country Fat Cats on their ears.
In some circles he has been dubbed a sorta savior of the genre, though its not a position he relishes. His philosophy is more a kin to "get in where you fit in, and ignore the rest."
"Turtles" is my favorite song of the year so far, but the others i love on the album are "The Promise" "Voices" and "Just Let Go"
Enjoy! _________________

Good pick. I've listened to this a few times so far this year, and it's a really refreshing throwback to classic country music _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Yeah, very reminiscent of country during one of it's golden ages and I hear a lot that takes me back. I listened to this a few days ago so it's still pretty fresh in my mind, I think I'll relisten today and see if I can get more out of the record.

I really like it but haven't listened to it enough to say any more than that. Precedent turned me onto it I believe from the "Listen to to this song & rank it" thread.

Got around to this and really liked it. I especially loved the cover of "The Promise", it translates really well as a country song, beautiful stuff. I agree it's definitely reminiscent of old country which is my favorite. Really good album, gonna be on my chart for now. _________________ 2023 Chart
