Great album! I just re-listened to it last week. It was recorded at a time when Costello said some things that got out to the press that were negative regarding Ray Charles and James Brown. A heavy R&B/Soul album. 10 songs per side was one of the more unusual things I remember at the time it was released.
I feel it is right up there with his best work.

Yeah, he explained his comments by saying he was just trying to be obnoxious to get Stephen Stills to leave him the fuck alone.

Costello did sooooooo much better than Pump It Up. Armed Forces is my personal favorite Costello album but Get Happy!! does a great got as its successor. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Costello could do no wrong for those first few years. I even quite like Almost Blue. This album is almost like a dry run for my personal favourite, Imperial Bedroom, starting to experiment with slightly more unpredictable structures and melodies. It still leans very heavily on that new wave sound of his first three (superior) records, but it definitely feels a bit more groovy, a little more indebted to soul music, though obviously not to the extent that Dexy's were. It's cool, not my favourite of his by a long way, but a very good album from a very good artist. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
