I'm extremely confused as to where E has been going ever since Daisies. This, on the contrary, is Eels' classic.

The warm production's probably my favorite part wrapping each song and the listener in comfortable aural cocoon. The production takes me back to the 90s when Alt Rock (thankfully) broke classic rock's chokehold on the airwaves. Despite the well-warranted Beck comparisons, E's a pretty swell sound collagist as well. Nothing earth shattering, and I can totally see why Hazey called it "safe", but I love my (aural) comfort food too. My biggest complaint would be that it seemed a bit front-loaded to me.
Further Listening: Soul Coughing's Ruby Vroom , Solex's Low Kick and Hard Bop
Fave tracks: Efils' God, Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor, Going to your Funeral
