I don't think the more Frank-oriented records are bad or "uncreative" as you guys keep implying though. I actually absolutely adore Trompe le Monde.

i wouldn't say they're bad or uncreative... for me they're just missing the spark that made me love Surfer Rosa & Doolittle. i know lots of folks still love the post-Doolittle albums.

I genuinely adore all their albums to a certain extent, yes, even Indie Cindy.
Doolittle is perfection to me though, loved since the day I heard it.

I said it was "less creative" after Doolittle, not "bad" or "uncreative". Trompe le Monde is unattainable level for 95 % bands, but inferior to Surfer Rosa or Doolittle, IMHO.

Woo, I'm not alone!

I'd go Doolittle, Surfer Rosa, Bossanova, Come On Pilgrim, Trompe Le Monde, Indie Cindy at the moment, all of them give me great enjoyment though whenever I get in one of my Pixies moods, I also play their B-sides and live stuff an awful awful lot in those phases.

Doolittle (100/100) > Surfer Rosa/Come on Pilgrim (95/100) > Bossanova (90/100) > Trompe le Monde (85/100) > Indie Cindy (75/100) here.

I never loved Doolittle. I wanted to, based on all the acclaim it's gotten. I do consider the song 'Hey' to be one of my very favorites ever though. Those chord changes destroy me. A very good album, a lot of very good to great songs, but not a 'masterpiece' sort of record. It's probably just too easy to like for me. I have Surfer Rosa a little bit higher because it is more gritty and dense.
