On their debut, Keane showed that it's possible to make a high selling pop-rock album with no guitars or synths; only with keybards and drums. I like this album a lot; it may not be the most varied and complex album but you can find some songs which can stay in your mind forever like "Somewhere only we know" or "Bedshaped" which are unique and gave fame to the "Piano Rock" genre. In short, they have a different sound of their own which is something to appreciate on a best selling album aimed at the general public.
I believe this is their best album; after, they tried to add more instruments but their songs were mostly worse than on this album.

If there were ever such a thing as "cult albums," Hopes and Fears might be among them. Flawed, but endlessly endearing to those who love it.
Track picks
1. Somewhere Only We Know
4. Everybody's Changing
12. Bedshaped _________________ Inversion Verses

2. Bend And Break
3. We Might As Well Be Strangers
6. She Has No Time
7. Can't Stop Now
9. This Is The Last Time
All 5 of these songs are both excellent and rarely mentioned. really a solid group of underrated tracks that give this album a lot of depth to supplement the oft-discussed "somewhere only we know", "everybody's changing", and "Bedshaped."

LOVED this album when it came out, but every time I've revisited it lately, I can't seem to enjoy it at all, with the exception of Somewhere Only We Know, Bedshaped and especially Untitled 1.

Ironically, easy listening music like this is the hardest stuff for me to listen to. Put it on a little while ago thinking my wife at least would dig it as we get ready for Halloween, and she's like -"What is this generic crap we're listening to?!"
Which of course totally made my day!
