Not even close to the same level as their numerous masterpieces (Clouds Taste Metallic, In a Priest Driven Ambulance, The Soft Bulletin, Zaireeka, Embryonic), but a really cool record nonetheless, even if the sound they were using at the time had worn very thin indeed by the time At War with the Mystics arrived. My favourites here are probably the instrumentals, and the wonderful 'Ego Tripping'. Solid stuff, and will always hold a special place in my heart for being the record that introduced me to the band. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Agreed 100%. I wouldn't put this in their top five, though it's by no means bad. _________________ "Everyone knows the moon's made of cheese."

Even so, you gotta admit "Fight Test" is a flawless track.
I'm playing it right now. Beautiful.

But of course! It's my favorite 21st century piece from the 'Lips _________________ "Everyone knows the moon's made of cheese."

This exactly.
I loved this album from first listen, but it's even more special to me now that I have kids (my 3-year-old is always asking for the "robot song"). I can easily understand how someone could look at Coyne's lyrics here and think that he's reaching way beyond his depth. Whether it's the robot who learns to be something more than a machine or the armchair philosophy of "Do You Realize?", you could imagine a cheap new age self-help book being made out of this concept.
But I just see that as part of the fun. This isn't a philosophy text, it's just a story about a girl fighting a bunch of robots.
