This is basically my opinion, except I like it quite a lot. Though it's super inconsistent, its highlights are really great.

Squarely in the decent camp. There's few highlights (Perfect Day is the only truly great song) but there's nothing offensively bad either.

I recently met a guy who is obsessed with Metal Machine Music. I decided to give it a try but it was very hard to listen in its entirety. That doesn't mean it was bad, though: in fact I can assure you it had all the qualities that guy was telling.
