Crumb, Krazy Kat, Calvin and Hobbes, etc.
also:
The Adventures of Tintin
Little Nemo
From Hell |
I grew up loving strips like Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield, etc. I haven't read any of the others, but damn Little Nemo looks awesome, as well as the others.

everyone should read Rogan Gosh by Peter Milligan and Brendan McCarthy, it's just one little comic book but it is dense and a lot of fun and I think you guys would enjoy it.
also if anyone ever sees BJ and Da Dogs by Paper Rad, that's basically my favorite book ever and it is a good time.
also hell yeah Krazy Kat. Picturebox put out a lot of amazing stuff when they were around and one thing they have is Art Out Of Time and that has a lot of really cool old stuff, very much worth checking out.
also the Kramer's Ergot series are really great collections of cool contemporary people, volumes 4-6 are especially important. so many good people, Mat Brinkman, C.F., Chris Ware, Renee French, Gary Panter, just tons of people that are really worth knowing about in those books.

Since you liked Watchmen, I'd recommend more Moore. V for Vendetta and From Hell comes to mind.
For graphic novels, some of my favorites have been Art Spiegelman's Maus and Scott McCloud's The Sculptor.
For comic series:
-Y: The Last Man - in an instant, every male on Earth mysteriously dies, except one guy and his pet monkey.
-Transmetropolitan - Imagine Hunter S Thompson living 100 years in the future.
Hope that helps. Just some off the top of my head. Enjoy!

I ended up reading V for Vendetta, having already seen the movie a long time ago. It was definitely different, in a really good way. I've never heard of Transmetropolitan, but that description alone makes me want to start reading it immediately! _________________
