The listening work would be colossal. Getting to know a band or an album is pretty easy (depending on the band or album obviously, but in general I mean), but discovering a whole country takes much much much more time. And discovering 64 countries for a tournament... Except if the rounds last for a few months, I don't see how we could do this. Interesting idea, though.

Oh i would have never suggested a 64 country tourney.

It would be more along the lines maybe 8-10 countries with like 2 or 3 captains each. Each round just put your best 3-4 albums forward (different ones each round) and the people of BEA would vote on the strength of those specific albums vs the other roster of albums. I would have also gave like a week for every single match up.

Maybe that still is a little convoluted (Perhaps only 6-8 countries?) but I still think it could work.

Pretty much this. Looks good on paper, but you'd probably end up having people voting for a country based solely on one or two artists they like that happens to be from that country.

I dont see why that would be a problem

I guess it's really not. I was just thinking that an artist or two shouldn't really represent an entire country's output.

Maybe a tournament of artists or albums outside of certain countries... like, a world album tourney.

This, however, is genius. I wonder why nobody has thought about it before. I'm super hyped for this.

I was planning on pitching a country vs country (omitting english speaking countries and perhaps Japan) Tourniment once all the other tourneys concluded. Has that been done before?

Entirely doable.

I like how Harkan pulled off his city tournament:

...and damn you Norman, you beat me to the Monty Python reference.

I voted for Austria.
I'm not really a fan of metal, and I don't know that much more about Finnish music.
But I love classical music, and Austria is in the top when it comes to it. I came home from Austria today, and I can tell, it is incredible that you can hear classical music - you can hear practising violin, piano etc. - at so many different places of the cities. I think it is beautiful.

Oh and Falco. He was the first German speaking rock musician who made a No. 1. hit in the USA.
Love him, he was talented.

I lived in Vienna for about a year, so I am biased, but look at the following heritage of music in Vienna:

Notable musicians were born in Vienna, including: Franz Schubert, Johann Strauss I, Johann Strauss II, Arnold Schönberg, Fritz Kreisler, Alban Berg, Louie Austen, Falco and Joe Zawinul.

Famous musicians who came here to work from other parts of Austria and Germany were Johann Joseph Fux, Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz von Suppé, Anton Bruckner, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Mahler and Rainhard Fendrich.

I know nothing about Finlandia's Metal scene... very biased vote, I suppose.

How far back are we going? If we're going back to to the 1700s, no country, let alone Finland, can top the trio of Haydn, Mozart and Schubert, and they're just the tip of the strudel.

In recent years, then it's definitely Finland. The symphonic metal alone makes the Finns world leaders.
