Brothers In Arms is way ahead of any of the other albums.
A few of the others are good though, a few pretty bland as well.

Love Over Gold is the obvious choice. Even if Telegraph Road was the only song on it, it would still warrant consideration.
Making Movies 2nd, Dire Straits 3rd.
Brothers in Arms is soooooooo overrated. Thank you MTV.

Dire Straits is my 2nd favourite band, with Queen being the 1st. Other artist change their places but these 2 are rock solid. They are also criminally underrated on this site.
Brothers in Arms is the obvious choice for so many people, but my fave is Love Over Gold. Short but sweet, with absolutely no filler and with some glorious highlights. My rankings would be:
1. Love Over Gold
2. Brothers In Arms
3. Making Movies
4. Dire Straits
5. Communique
6. On Every Street
This goes on to say that their 1980-1985 period was pure gold. Mark's songwriting was fully developed, the guitar, the piano, the sax - everything was where it should be.
Dire Straits is a band without much embelishments - Mark isn't a a great frontmen and show men, they don't have cool visuals and album covers, the production has a modest quality etc etc... But if you want quality MUSIC, you've come to the right place.
