Built to spill rarely releases clunkers song and album wise. This is a masterpiece alongside perfect from now on and keep it like a secret. The truth is that the charm isn't really in the stuff they try to actually do. "I would hurt a fly" is set up with darkish sound and lyricism, but it's not good because of that. That isn't bad mind you, but the important part of BTS is that their strong suit is always these insane textures they have in all of their songs. I don't think it has a particularly amazing recording (as compared to carly rae jepsen for example) sound quality wise, but they manage to encapsulate all these little intricacies in music and perfectly intertwine their lyricism into it.
To me, it's a good example of a concept being irrelevant, but the execution being fantastic.
